〜はもちろん

not to mention ~; ~ of course, and also ~

Formation

  • N + はもちろん

Explanation

A はもちろん B (も) means A goes without saying, and B as well. A is something obvious, and B is added to it. The second part often has も or まで. It is similar to だけでなく but stresses that A is obvious, and it is common in polite speech and writing.

Examples

  • この公園こうえんは週末しゅうまつはもちろん、平日へいじつも人ひとが多おおい。

    This park is crowded on weekdays, not to mention weekends.

  • 田中たなかさんは英語えいごはもちろん、フランス語ごも話はなせます。

    Tanaka-san speaks English, of course, and French too.

  • この仕事しごとでは、パソコンの技術ぎじゅつはもちろん、人ひとと話はなす力ちからも必要ひつようです。

    In this job, you need computer skills, of course, and communication skills as well.

  • 京都きょうとは春はるの桜さくらはもちろん、秋あきの紅葉こうようもきれいです。

    Kyoto is beautiful with its autumn leaves, not to mention its spring cherry blossoms.

Notes

It basically attaches to nouns. To link verb or adjective clauses, use だけでなく.

Answer: 1 この店みせは料理りょうりはもちろん、サービスもすばらしい。

1 means: The food is great, of course, and the service is too. 2 and 4 attach it to a verb or adjective and need から for a reason. 3 makes no sense.
