Looks ~ / seems about to ~
This そうだ describes an impression based on how something looks. (1) With adjectives: looks ~ (looks delicious, looks hard). (2) With verbs: seems about to happen or likely to happen (it looks like it will rain). It is for impressions not yet confirmed, so it is not used for things that are obvious at a glance, like a color.
この ケーキは とても おいしそうですね。
This cake looks really delicious.
空が 暗いですね。雨が 降りそうです。
The sky is dark. It looks like it's going to rain.
I heard that ~ / they say ~
Hearsay そうだ passes on information you heard from someone or learned from the news or a book, without adding your own opinion. The source is often given with 〜によると or 〜の話では. It attaches to the plain form, so na-adjectives and nouns keep だ.
天気予報に よると、明日は 雪が 降るそうです。
According to the weather forecast, it will snow tomorrow.
田中さんの 話では、あの レストランは 安くて おいしいそうです。
According to Mr. Tanaka, that restaurant is cheap and good.
リンわあ、この パン屋、すごく 込んで いるね。人が たくさん 並んで いる。Wow, this bakery is really crowded. Lots of people are lined up.
田中先週 できた 店だよ。テレビに よると、昼には 売り切れるそうだよ。It opened last week. According to TV, it sells out by noon.
リン窓から パンが 見えるよ。あの メロンパン、大きくて おいしそう!I can see the bread through the window. That melon bread looks big and delicious!
田中あれが 一番 人気の パンだよ。中が すごく 柔らかいそうだよ。That's the most popular bread. I hear it's really soft inside.
リンやっと 店に 入れたね。あれ? メロンパンが ない…。We finally got into the shop. Huh? There's no melon bread...

The children are playing in the park with happy-looking faces. For appearance, drop い from an i-adjective: 楽しそう, and use 楽しそうな before a noun.

According to Lin, the manager of that shop is French. For hearsay with a noun, add だ: フランス人だそうです.
8この パンは 外が 硬いです。
Answer: 3 かたい
硬い is read かたい (hard). It is not voiced like かだい or がたい. The sentence means "The outside of this bread is hard."
