Compares two things and states the difference. AはBに比べて～ means about the same as A is more ～ than B, but is slightly more formal than より. と比べて is used the same way. It is followed by words of degree or change, such as many, expensive, easy or increased.

田中では、留学生りゅうがくせいの代表だいひょうとして、アリさんにお話はなしをしてもらいます。Now, Ali will speak to us as the representative of the international students.

アリみなさん、こんにちは。アリです。今日きょうは交流会こうりゅうかいに参加さんかできて、うれしいです。Hello, everyone. I'm Ali. I'm happy to be able to take part in today's exchange event.

マリアマリアです。今日きょうは通訳つうやくとして来きました。よろしくお願ねがいします。I'm Maria. I'm here today as the interpreter. Nice to meet you all.

アリ先月せんげつ、初はじめて地元じもとのお祭まつりに行いきました。とてもいい経験けいけんになりました。Last month, I went to a local festival for the first time. It was a really good experience.

アリ私わたしの国くにのお祭まつりに比くらべて、日本にほんのお祭まつりは始はじまる時間じかんが早はやいです。国くにのお祭まつりは、夜よる十時じゅうじごろに始はじまって、朝あさまで続つづきます。Compared with festivals in my country, Japanese festivals start early. Festivals back home start around 10 p.m. and go on until morning.

田中朝あさまで！それは大おおきな違ちがいですね。日本にほんのお祭まつりはどうでしたか。Until morning! That's a big difference. What did you think of the Japanese festival?

アリおみこしが重おもくて、肩かたがとても痛いたくなりました。でも、町まちの人ひとたちと一緒いっしょに運はこんで、楽たのしかったです。The portable shrine was heavy, and my shoulders really hurt. But carrying it together with the people of the town was fun.

アリあ、すみません。去年きょねんに比くらべて、日本語にほんごが上手じょうずになったみたいです。Oh, sorry. It seems my Japanese has improved compared with last year.
