Learn to say whether you did something all the way to the end with ~きる / ~きれない, and that you did something only halfway with ~かける.

Formação
  • Vます形 + きる
  • Vます形 + きれない

~きる means doing something all the way to the end, or reaching a complete state (読みきる, 疲れきる). ~きれない means you cannot do it all because there is too much (食べきれない, 数えきれない). 待ちきれない expresses being too excited to wait.

Exemplos

  • この本ほんは厚あついけれど、一週間いっしゅうかんで 読よみきった。

    This book is thick, but I read the whole thing in a week.

  • 料理りょうりが多おおすぎて、二人ふたりでは 食たべきれなかった。

    There was too much food for the two of us to finish.

Formação
  • Vます形 + かける
  • Vます形 + かけの + N

There are two uses. (1) An action was started but left unfinished. It is often used as ~かけの + noun: 読みかけの本 (a half-read book), 食べかけのパン. (2) Something is about to happen or has just begun to happen: 忘れかける (start to forget), 枯れかける (start to wither).

Exemplos

  • 机つくえの上うえに 読よみかけの 本ほんが置おいてある。

    There is a half-read book on the desk.

  • 彼女かのじょは何なにか 言いいかけて、やめた。

    She started to say something, then stopped.

読みかけの小説 The unfinished novel

アリこの小説しょうせつ、長ながい物語ものがたりだけど、おもしろくて一晩ひとばんで読よみきったよ。This novel is a long story, but it was so good I read it all in one night.

マリアあ、その作家さっかの本ほん、私わたしも持もってる。でも、途中とちゅうでやめて、読よみかけのままなんだ。Oh, I have a book by that author too. But I stopped in the middle, and it's still half-read.

アリどうして? 最後さいごまで読よむと、すごく感動かんどうするのに。Why? It's really moving if you read it to the end.

マリア登場人物とうじょうじんぶつが多おおすぎて、名前なまえを覚おぼえきれなかったの。だれがだれだか分わからなくなっちゃって。There were too many characters, and I couldn't remember all their names. I lost track of who was who.

アリそれなら、最初さいしょのページを見みて。登場人物とうじょうじんぶつの名前なまえが全部ぜんぶ書かいてあるよ。In that case, look at the first page. All the characters' names are written there.

マリアえっ、本当ほんとう? …あ、ほんとだ。全然ぜんぜん気きづかなかった。What, really? ...Oh, you're right. I never noticed.

マリアじゃあ、今夜こんやから読書どくしょの続つづきをするね。最後さいごまで読よみきったら、感想かんそうを話はなすよ。Then I'll go back to reading starting tonight. When I finish it, I'll tell you what I thought.
