Learn to say although ~ (but things turned out differently) with 〜ものの, and to give an excuse or explain a reason with 〜ものだから. Then read a conversation where Ali apologizes to a friend for oversleeping on the first day of a class.

〜ものの

Although ~ (but things don't go as expected)

Formação
  • V普通形 + ものの
  • いA + ものの
  • なA + な / である + ものの
  • N + である + ものの

Used to admit a fact while saying the result is different from what you would expect. The second half often describes something that isn't going well or is not enough. It is a little more formal than けれども and common in writing. The second half cannot be an intention, request, command or invitation.

Exemplos

  • 新あたらしいパソコンを買かったものの、使つかい方かたがよく分わからない。

    I bought a new computer, but I don't really know how to use it.

  • 給料きゅうりょうは安やすいものの、仕事しごとは楽たのしくて気きに入いっている。

    Although the pay is low, the work is fun and I like it.

〜ものだから

Because ~ (giving an excuse or explanation)

Formação
  • V普通形 + ものだから
  • いA + ものだから
  • なA + な + ものだから
  • N + な + ものだから

Gives a reason as an excuse or explanation: because of this situation, it couldn't be helped. It is common when apologizing for being late or for a mistake. In casual speech it becomes もんだから. The second half cannot be a command, request or intention.

Exemplos

  • 電車でんしゃが遅おくれたものだから、会議かいぎに間まに合あいませんでした。

    The train was delayed, so I couldn't make it to the meeting in time.

  • 外そとがあまりに寒さむいものだから、一日中いちにちじゅう家いえにいた。

アリうん。先生せんせいは笑わらって、「じゃあ次つぎは、みんなの分ぶんのパンを焼やいてきてね」って。Yeah. The teacher laughed and said, "Then next time, bake bread for everyone and bring it."

マリアそれはいいね! じゃあ、私わたしの分ぶんもお願ねがい。目覚めざましは朝あさの七時しちじだよ。That's great! Then please make some for me too. Set your alarm for seven in the morning.
