Formação

  • N + かと思いきや

Explicação

A と思いきや B means 'I thought A, but actually, to my surprise, B.' B is the opposite of what was expected, so it usually states an actual result, often in the past tense. The form かと思いきや is also common. It is somewhat literary and used in writing or to convey mild surprise.
