Ever since A, things have changed (and stayed changed)
A てからというもの B means that ever since A, which was a turning point, the state in B has continued. B describes a big change in behavior or circumstances compared to before. It sounds more emotional than plain てから. B cannot be a single event, an intention or a command.
犬を 飼い始めてからというもの、毎朝散歩するようになった。
Ever since I got a dog, I've been going for a walk every morning.
彼女は留学から 帰ってきてからというもの、前よりずっと積極的になった。
Since she came back from studying abroad, she has become much more outgoing.
Starting with A (and followed by many more)
A を皮切りに B means that A is the first of a series of similar things that follow one after another and spread. It is used for fairly large-scale or growing events such as concert tours, store openings, opinions in a meeting, or festivals. It is not used for small everyday matters like what you ate for breakfast.
そのバンドは東京 を皮切りに、全国20の都市でコンサートを行う。
Starting in Tokyo, the band will give concerts in 20 cities nationwide.
駅前の一号店 を皮切りに、その会社は次々と新しい店を開いた。
Beginning with its first store in front of the station, the company opened one new store after another.
今年六十八歳になる田中さんは、定年まで銀行員として働いた。家では無口で、趣味らしい趣味もなかったという。Mr. Tanaka, who turns 68 this year, worked as a banker until retirement. He says he was quiet at home and had no real hobbies to speak of.
そんな田中さんが落語に出会ったのは、退職した年の春だ。友人に誘われて聞きに行き、一人で何百人もの客を笑わせる話し手に心を奪われた。He encountered rakugo in the spring of the year he retired. A friend invited him to a show, and he was captivated by a storyteller who made hundreds of people laugh all by himself.
落語を始めてからというもの、田中さんの生活は一変した。Ever since he took up rakugo, Mr. Tanaka's life has changed completely.
朝は散歩しながら話を覚え、夜は鏡の前で練習に没頭する。In the morning he memorizes stories while taking a walk, and at night he immerses himself in practice in front of the mirror.

今では年に三十回を超える舞台に立ち、本人も「定年後の大躍進です」と笑う。Now he appears on stage more than thirty times a year, and he laughs, calling it 'my great leap after retirement.'
落語は、今や田中さんの生きがいだ。Rakugo is now his purpose in life.
だが、奥さんにとっていちばんの変化は別のところにあるらしい。「前は夕食の時もほとんど話さなかったのに、今は食事中も落語の話ばかりで、こちらが口をはさむ暇もないんです」と苦笑する。For his wife, however, the biggest change seems to lie elsewhere. 'He used to hardly say a word even at dinner, but now he talks about rakugo all through the meal, and I can't get a word in,' she says with a wry smile.
