N5 व्याकरण 8/60

〜じゃありません

is not / am not / are not (negative of です)

बनावट

  • N + じゃありません
  • N + ではありません(かたい言い方)
  • なA + じゃありません/ではありません

व्याख्या

This is the negative of N です: "is not / am not / are not." じゃ is the spoken short form of では, so じゃありません is common in conversation, while ではありません is more formal and is preferred in writing. When you answer a question with いいえ, it sounds natural to add the correct information afterwards: いいえ、学生じゃありません。会社員です (No, I'm not a student. I'm an office worker).

उदाहरण

  • 私わたしは 学生がくせいじゃありません。会社員かいしゃいんです。

I'm not a student. I'm an office worker.

  • A: これは リンさんの かさですか。
    B: いいえ、私わたしのじゃありません。

A: Is this your umbrella, Lin-san? B: No, it isn't mine.

  • ここは 銀行ぎんこうじゃありません。郵便局ゆうびんきょくです。

This is not a bank. It's a post office.

  • 明日あしたは 休やすみではありません。

Tomorrow is not a day off. (formal)

टिप्पणी

In conversation じゃないです is also common. This form is for nouns and な-adjectives only; い-adjectives have a different negative (〜くないです), which you will learn later.

B: いいえ、先生せんせい( )。学生がくせいです。

उत्तर र व्याख्या

उत्तर: 4 じゃありません

A asks "Is Lin-san a teacher?" and B answers "No, not a teacher. A student." The negative of です is じゃありません. じゃあります does not exist, and ありません alone cannot follow the noun here.

2これは 私わたしの 本ほん( )ありません。

उत्तर र व्याख्या

उत्तर: 3 では

"This is not my book." ではありません is the more formal form of じゃありません. を, の and か cannot replace では in this pattern.

3A: あの 人ひとは 田中たなかさんですか。
B: ( )、田中たなかさんじゃありません。山田やまださんです。

उत्तर र व्याख्या

उत्तर: 2 いいえ

A asks "Is that person Tanaka-san?" B denies it (not Tanaka-san, but Yamada-san), so the reply starts with いいえ (no). はい is used when the answer is "yes, that's right."
