Humble language: lowering your own actions
Kenjougo lowers your own actions (or those of your family or company) to show respect to the listener. お〜する and ご〜する are often used for actions done for the other person, such as carrying their bag or contacting them. Special verbs like まいる, 申す and いたす are common in self-introductions and business calls. Never use kenjougo for a superior's actions.
重そうですね。私が お荷物を お持ちします。
That looks heavy. Let me carry your bag.
はじめまして。マリアと 申します。
Nice to meet you. My name is Maria.
Please do ~ (polite, respectful request)
お〜ください and ご〜ください are more polite than 〜てください. They are common in shops, stations and offices when speaking to customers or superiors. Use お with native Japanese verbs (待つ, 座る) and ご with Sino-Japanese nouns that take する (連絡, 注意).
順番に 呼びますので、こちらで お待ちください。
We will call you in order, so please wait here.
どうぞ、こちらに お座りください。
Please have a seat here.
