Shows that an event became the starting point for a new action or a change in thinking or relationships. The trigger can be small or accidental. The second part usually describes a change or a new start, such as 〜を始めた or 〜ようになった. がきっかけで is also common, and を契機に is a more formal version.

① through / via ~ ② throughout (a period or area)
There are two uses. ① Means or intermediary: getting information, making connections, or learning through something or someone ② Period or range: the same state continues throughout the whole period or area The two forms are mostly interchangeable; を通じて is a little more formal, and を通して is common when you deliberately go through a person.

Last spring, I tried joining a cooking class held at the community center in my neighborhood.
That was because I was interested in Japanese home cooking, and I was a little tired of cooking alone.
The participants ranged from university students to an 80-year-old woman, and their ages and jobs were all different.
I had almost never used a kitchen knife, and Yamamoto, who was next to me, taught me carefully.
Thanks to this class, I began talking with people in the community more often.
Throughout the year, every season brought new experiences. In summer I helped at a festival stall, and in autumn we all dug up potatoes in a field.
I used to be bad at actively talking to people first, but when you cook together, conversation starts naturally.
The friends I met through cooking are now precious people I can talk to about anything.
When I held an event to introduce food from my country, Yamamoto brought along a grandchild, and our circle grew even bigger.
From just one class, my world has grown this much.
My cooking skills, however, haven't improved much yet.
