Explanation
Use this to say which one is "the most ~" among three or more things. いちばん (literally "number one") goes right before the adjective. The group you choose from is marked with 〜の中で or just で: スポーツの中で (among sports), クラスで (in the class), 一年で (in the year). The question word depends on what is compared: 何 or どれ for things, だれ for people, どこ for places, いつ for times. Answer with 〜が いちばん ~です.
Examples
スポーツの 中で サッカーが いちばん 好きです。
Among sports, I like soccer the most.
A「一年で いつが いちばん 寒いですか。」
B「二月が いちばん 寒いです。」A: When is the coldest time of the year? B: February is the coldest.
クラスの 中で リンさんが いちばん 歌が 上手です。
Lin-san is the best singer in the class.
A「りんごと みかんと バナナの 中で、どれが いちばん 好きですか。」
B「みかんが いちばん 好きです。」A: Of apples, mandarin oranges and bananas, which do you like best? B: I like mandarin oranges best.
Notes
For two things use どちら and 〜のほうが; for three or more use いちばん. Ask 何が when you name a category (スポーツの中で), and どれが when you list the items (A と B と C の中で). The range takes で, not に (not クラスの中に).

"Of the dishes at this restaurant, the curry is the best." With 〜の中で (among three or more), use いちばん before the adjective. ほうが compares two things, どちら is a question word, and あまり needs a negative ending.
