- Vます形 + ようがない
- N(する動詞の名詞) + の + しようがない
Explanation
Means you want or need to do something, but there is no method or means to do it, for example because necessary information is missing. Verbs like 連絡する can be used as 連絡しようがない or 連絡のしようがない.
Examples
電話番号を知らないので、連絡のしようがない。
I don't know his phone number, so there's no way to contact him.
壊れ方がひどくて、もう 直しようがないと言われた。
I was told it was so badly broken that there was no way to fix it.
住所が分からなければ、荷物を 送りようがない。
If we don't know the address, there's no way to send the package.
あの景色の美しさは、言葉では 表しようがない。
The beauty of that scenery cannot be expressed in words.
Notes
しようがない (しょうがない) is also a set phrase meaning "it can't be helped." っこない expresses the speaker's strong judgment, while ようがない means there is no method.
