〜最中に

Right in the middle of ~ (something happens)

Formación
  • Vている + 最中に
  • N + の + 最中に
  • (文末) Vている / N + の + 最中だ

〜最中に means "right in the middle of" an action or event. The main clause usually describes something unexpected or disturbing that happens at that moment, such as a phone ringing. As 〜最中だ at the end of a sentence, it means "I am right in the middle of doing ~." It is used for activities that are in progress, not for long-lasting states like living somewhere or being a student.

Ejemplos

  • 会議かいぎの 最中さいちゅうに、大おおきな音おとで電話でんわが鳴なりだした。

In the middle of the meeting, a phone started ringing loudly.

  • シャワーを 浴あびている最中さいちゅうに、急きゅうに電気でんきが消きえた。

Right in the middle of my shower, the lights suddenly went out.

〜ついでに

While doing ~ anyway, also do something else

Formación
  • V辞書形 + ついでに
  • Vた形 + ついでに
  • N + の + ついでに

AついでにB means that A is the main purpose, and you take the chance to do B as well. B is usually a small extra task. Use the dictionary form for something you are going to do (行くついでに) and the た-form for something already done (行ったついでに). Nouns take の, as in 買い物のついでに.

Ejemplos

  • 郵便局ゆうびんきょくへ 行いくついでに、この手紙てがみも出だしてくれる?

Since you're going to the post office anyway, could you mail this letter too?

  • 買かい物ものの ついでに、本屋ほんやに寄よった。

While I was out shopping, I stopped by a bookstore.

ついでの買い物 Just a quick errand

リンちょっと郵便局ゆうびんきょくに行いってくるね。国くにの家族かぞくに荷物にもつを送おくるんだ。I'm just going to the post office. I'm sending a package to my family back home.

マリアあ、待まって! 郵便局ゆうびんきょくに行いくついでに、スーパーに寄よってくれる?Oh, wait! While you're going to the post office, could you stop by the supermarket?

リンいいよ。何なにか足たりないの?Sure. Are we short of something?

マリア肉にくじゃがを作つくっている最中さいちゅうに、しょうゆが切きれちゃったの。あと、卵たまごと牛乳ぎゅうにゅうと玉たまねぎも……。In the middle of making nikujaga, I ran out of soy sauce. Also eggs, milk and onions...

リンちょっと待まって。それはもう「ついで」じゃなくて、ふつうの買かい物ものだよ。Hold on. That's not "while you're at it" anymore. That's regular shopping.

マリアごめんね。お金かねはあとで私わたしが支払しはらうから。Sorry. I'll pay you back later.

リンただいま。レジがすごく混こんでいたよ。はい、頼たのまれた品物しなもの。I'm back. The checkout was really crowded. Here are the things you asked for.

マリアありがとう! 全部ぜんぶある。……あれ? その箱はこ、まだ持もっているの?Thank you! Everything's here. ...Huh? You're still holding that box?

リンあっ! スーパーのことを考かんがえていて、郵便局ゆうびんきょくに行いくのを忘わすれちゃった。Oh no! I was thinking about the supermarket and forgot to go to the post office.

マリアじゃあ、明日あしたは私わたしが行いこうか。散歩さんぽのついでに。Then shall I go tomorrow? While I'm out for a walk.

Comprueba si lo has entendido

R1マリアさんは、なぜリンさんに買かい物ものを頼たのみましたか。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 2 料理りょうりの途中とちゅうでしょうゆがなくなったから

Maria says she ran out of soy sauce in the middle of making nikujaga. Sending the package is Lin's errand, not Maria's.

R2最後さいごに、リンさんが忘わすれていたことは何なんですか。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 4 郵便局ゆうびんきょくで荷物にもつを送おくること

Lin says he forgot to go to the post office. He bought everything at the supermarket, and Maria will pay later.

Quiz

1会社かいしゃの帰かえりに本屋ほんやに( )、雑誌ざっしを買かいました。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 3 寄よって

"On my way home from work, I stopped by a bookstore and bought a magazine." 寄る means to drop in on the way. 渡る is for crossing, 届く is for things arriving, and 止める needs an object with を.

2電池でんちが( )しまったので、時計とけいが止とまっている。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 1 切きれて

"The battery has run out, so the clock has stopped." 切れる means to run out. 足りる means to be enough, 割れる means to break (like glass), and 消える is used for lights or fire going out.

3二千円にせんえんあれば、パーティーの飲のみ物もの代だいは( )と思おもいます。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 4 足たりる

"If we have 2,000 yen, I think it will be enough for the party drinks." 足りる means to be enough. The other verbs do not fit with "if we have 2,000 yen."

4会議かいぎの( )、電話でんわが鳴なった。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 2 最中さいちゅうに

"In the middle of the meeting, the phone rang." The correct form is N の最中に. 最中だ cannot connect to the next clause, ついでに is for adding an extra task, and とおりに means doing something the same way as something else.

5駅えきへ行いく( )、銀行ぎんこうでお金かねを下おろしてきた。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 4 ついでに

"While going to the station, I also took out money at the bank." ついでに means doing one thing while doing another. 最中に attaches to ている or a noun, so 行く最中に is wrong, and うちに and とおりに do not fit the meaning.

6「ついでに」の使つかい方かたが正ただしい文ぶんはどれですか。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 1 散歩さんぽのついでに、パンを買かってきた。

ついでに is used when you take the chance of one activity to also do another. "I bought bread while out for a walk" is correct. Rain, a cold, or sleeping are not activities you do on purpose, so 2, 3 and 4 are unnatural.

7手紙てがみを出だしに郵便局へ行いきます。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 3 ゆうびんきょく

郵便局 is read ゆうびんきょく (post office). ゆう is long, and きょく has no voiced sound. "I'm going to the post office to send a letter."

8この店みせは品物が多おおい。

Respuesta y explicación

Respuesta: 2 しなもの

品物 is read しなもの (goods). 品 is read ひん in words like 商品 (しょうひん). "This store has a lot of goods."
