- Vて形 + みる
Explicación
〜てみる means actually doing something in order to find out what it is like or what will happen. It is often used for things you are doing for the first time or do not know well yet. Common forms are 〜てみたいです (I'd like to try), 〜てみてください (please try) and 〜てみてもいいですか (may I try?). This みる is written in hiragana and conjugates as a Group 2 verb.
Ejemplos
すみません、この くつを はいて みても いいですか。
Excuse me, may I try these shoes on?
一度 日本の 着物を 着て みたいです。
I'd like to try wearing a Japanese kimono once.
駅前の 新しい レストランに 行って みました。とても おいしかったです。
I tried the new restaurant in front of the station. It was very good.
この ケーキは 私が 作りました。どうぞ 食べて みて ください。
I made this cake. Please try it.
Notas
It is different from English "try to do" (make an effort that may fail). With 〜てみる the action is actually carried out, so you cannot say 起きてみましたが、起きられませんでした (I tried getting up, but couldn't get up).

Mini quiz
1この ペン、ちょっと ( ) みても いいですか。
Respuesta y explicación
Respuesta: 3 使って
"May I try using this pen for a moment?" みる follows the て-form of a verb. The て-form of 使う is 使って, so 使って みても いいですか is correct. The dictionary form, the ます-stem and the た-form cannot be used.
2北海道は とても きれいだと 聞きました。一度 行って ( )です。
Respuesta y explicación
Respuesta: 1 みたい
"I heard Hokkaido is very beautiful. I'd like to try going there once." To add 〜たい, みる changes to its ます-stem み: みたい. So 行って みたいです is correct. みる is a Group 2 verb, so forms like みりたい do not exist.
3正しい 文は どれですか。
Respuesta y explicación
Respuesta: 2 初めての 料理ですが、食べて みます。
2 is correct: "It's a dish I've never had, but I'll try it." In 1, 起きて みました means the speaker actually got up, which contradicts "I couldn't get up." 3 and 4 have the wrong form: みる follows the て-form, so 着て みます and 書いて みました are correct.
