Covered all over in ~ (something dirty)
Attached to a noun, it describes liquid or fine particles stuck all over a body or object. It is used with words like 泥, 汗, 油, ほこり, 砂 and usually carries a sense of dirtiness or discomfort. It can also describe being completely caught up in something bad, as in 借金まみれ (buried in debt).
雨の中でサッカーをして、子どもたちは 泥まみれになった。
After playing soccer in the rain, the children were covered in mud.
暑い日に引っ越しの荷物を運んで、汗まみれになった。
I carried moving boxes on a hot day and ended up drenched in sweat.
To show signs of ~ / to seem like ~
Attached to a noun, it means something shows the feel of that noun without fully being it. It is used for signs of a season (春めく, 秋めく) and for words or people that seem like something (皮肉めいた, 謎めいた, 説教めいた, 言い訳めいた). Before a noun, 〜めいた is usual, and change is often expressed with 〜めいてきた.
三月に入り、日差しもだいぶ 春めいてきた。
Now that it's March, the sunlight has begun to feel quite spring-like.
先輩は遅刻した私に 皮肉めいたことを言った。
My senior said something sarcastic to me when I was late.
