Though ~; despite ~
A ながらも B means 'although A, B,' where B does not match what A suggests. ながら alone can mean 'although,' but adding も makes the contrast clear. The subject of both halves is usually the same, and A is usually a state (small, inconvenient, a child, knowing). It is often used to admit a weak point and then state a good point.
狭いながらも、自分の家を持てたことがうれしい。
Though it's small, I'm happy that I could get a house of my own.
彼は文句を言いながらも、最後まで手伝ってくれた。
Although he complained, he helped me until the end.
I thought ~, but surprisingly ~
A と思いきや B means 'I thought A, but actually, to my surprise, B.' B is the opposite of what was expected, so it usually states an actual result, often in the past tense. The form かと思いきや is also common. It is somewhat literary and used in writing or to convey mild surprise.
試験は難しいと思いきや、意外に簡単だった。
I thought the exam would be hard, but surprisingly it was easy.
雨がやんだと思いきや、すぐにまた降り出した。
Just when I thought the rain had stopped, it started again.
三月に入って、寒さがようやく和らいできた。Now that it's March, the cold has finally begun to ease.
コートなしで出かけられる日も増え、春を待ちわびていた私は心が弾んだ。There were more days I could go out without a coat, and I, who had been longing for spring, felt my heart lift.
ところが、このまま暖かくなると思いきや、今朝は一転して厳しく冷え込んだ。However, just when I thought it would keep getting warmer, this morning it suddenly turned bitterly cold.
窓を開けると、庭がうっすらと白くなっている。When I opened the window, the garden was lightly covered in white.
あの暖かさは束の間のことだったのかと、私はがっかりした。So that warmth had lasted only a brief moment, I thought, disappointed.
しまったばかりの厚いコートをまた出して、覚悟を決めて外に出た。I took out the thick coat I had only just put away and went outside, ready for the cold.
しかし、風がなかったからか思ったほど寒くはなく、少し拍子抜けした。But perhaps because there was no wind, it wasn't as cold as I had expected, and it felt a little anticlimactic.
駅へ向かう途中の公園で、ふと桜の枝が目に留まった。At a park on my way to the station, a cherry branch suddenly caught my eye.
雪をかぶりながらも、小さなつぼみがしっかりとふくらんでいたのだ。Though covered in snow, its small buds had firmly swollen.
寒い朝でも、木はちゃんと春の兆しを見せてくれている。Even on a cold morning, the tree was properly showing me signs of spring.
その日は昼になっても肌寒かったが、私の足取りはなぜか軽かった。It stayed chilly even at noon that day, but for some reason my steps felt light.

Line 7 says it wasn't as cold as expected because there was no wind, so it felt anticlimactic. The writer had prepared for the cold. Option 2 is why the writer was disappointed in line 5, not the reason for 拍子抜け.

きざし is written 兆し (sign). The others look similar but are used in 挑む, 跳ぶ and 眺める.
