解說
Used to say that because of a certain fact, situation or position, something naturally follows. The second half expresses obligation, determination or judgment, such as なければならない, べきだ, つもりだ or はずだ. It is somewhat formal and common in business and writing. It is close to からには, but 以上 sounds more objective and suits statements about rules and responsibility.
例句
約束した以上は、最後まで責任を持たなければならない。
Now that you've made a promise, you have to take responsibility to the end.
学生である以上、授業には毎回出席するべきだ。
As long as you are a student, you should attend every class.
この店で働く以上、商品のことはよく知っておく必要がある。
Since you work at this shop, you need to know the products well.
参加費がこれほど高い以上、内容をきちんと説明しなければならない。
Since the fee is this high, we must explain the content properly.
注意
The second half is not a simple statement of fact. With nouns and な-adjectives use である; 学生な以上 and 学生の以上 are wrong.
