About; concerning ~ (topic of speaking, thinking, etc.)
Marks the topic or content of verbs like speak, ask, think, research and write. It is close to Nのことを but a little more formal, so it is common in class and at work. To modify a noun, use NについてのN (e.g. a book about history).
明日の会議では、新しい計画 について 話し合います。
At tomorrow's meeting, we will discuss the new plan.

Toward ~; in contrast to ~
There are two uses. (1) It marks the person or thing that a feeling, attitude or action is directed at: speak politely to customers. Before a noun, use Nに対するN. (2) With のに対して after a clause, it contrasts two facts: my older brother likes cooking, whereas my younger brother does not cook at all.
店員は客 に対して いつも丁寧に話します。
The shop staff always speak politely to customers.
学生の質問 に対して、先生は分かりやすく答えました。
The teacher answered the students' questions clearly.
先生今日は、町の公園の使い方について話し合いましょう。まず、佐藤さんが調べた内容を発表してください。Today, let's talk about how the town park is used. First, Sato, please present what you found out.
佐藤はい。公園を使う人に話を聞きました。朝はお年寄りが多いのに対して、夕方は子どもが多いです。Yes. I talked to people who use the park. In the morning there are many elderly people, while in the evening there are many children.
佐藤いちばん多かった意見は「夜は暗くて少し怖い」というものでした。それで、夜の明かりを増やしたらいいと思います。The most common opinion was "It's dark and a little scary at night." So I think they should add more lights at night.
アリ賛成です。ぼくも夜ジョギングをするとき、公園は暗いと思っていました。I agree. When I go jogging at night, I've also thought the park was dark.
リンわたしは反対です。明るすぎると、近くに住んでいる人が眠れないかもしれません。I'm against it. If it's too bright, the people living nearby might not be able to sleep.
先生リンさんの意見に対して、ほかの人はどう思いますか。What do the others think about Lin's opinion?
アリじゃあ、夜十時までは明るくして、そのあとは少し暗くするのはどうですか。Then how about keeping it bright until 10 p.m. and making it a little darker after that?
リンそれならいいですね。でも、佐藤さんはどうして夜の公園について、そんなに詳しく調べたんですか。That sounds good. But Sato, why did you look into the park at night in so much detail?
佐藤実は先週、夜の公園で財布を落としたんです。暗くて、見つけるのに一時間もかかりました。Actually, last week I dropped my wallet in the park at night. It was so dark that it took me a whole hour to find it.
先生なるほど。それで説明にも力が入っていたわけですね。I see. So that's why you put so much energy into your explanation.

発表 is read はっぴょう (presentation). Watch the small っ and the long う. The sentence means "I gave a presentation about my trip in class."
