This shows a worry or danger that something bad may happen. It is common in weather forecasts, news and warning signs. It is not used for good things. With a noun, add の, as in 大雨のおそれがある.
台風の影響で、明日は電車が 止まるおそれがあります。
Because of the typhoon, trains may stop running tomorrow.
道が混んでいるので、会議に 間に合わないおそれがある。
The roads are crowded, so we may not make it to the meeting in time.
Considering ~; for ~ (unexpectedly)
This shows that the result is different from what you would normally expect, considering ~. It can be better than expected (安いわりにおいしい) or worse (練習したわりに勝てなかった). The form わりには is also common. It is used in both speech and writing.
この店の料理は、値段が 安いわりにおいしい。
The food at this restaurant is good for the price.
兄はよく 食べるわりに太らない。
My older brother doesn't gain weight, considering how much he eats.
夏になると、買ってきた食べ物がすぐに傷んでしまうという人も多いだろう。Many people probably find that in summer, the food they buy goes bad quickly.
気温の高い時期は、パンや果物でも、常温で置いておくと傷むおそれがある。In the hot season, even bread and fruit may spoil if left at room temperature.
