According to ~
Shows the source of information, such as the news, a weather forecast or what someone said. The sentence usually ends with a hearsay form such as そうだ, らしい or ということだ. によれば means almost the same. It is not used to give your own opinion.
天気予報 によると、明日は雪が降るそうです。
According to the weather forecast, it will snow tomorrow.
田中さんの話 によると、駅前に新しいパン屋ができたらしいです。
According to Mr. Tanaka, a new bakery has opened in front of the station.
Just as ~; in the way that ~
Means in the same way as something heard, seen or planned. Use Vる/Vた + とおり with verbs and Nのとおり with nouns. When attached directly to a noun, it becomes どおり (予定どおり). Use とおりに before a verb and とおりの before a noun.
先生が言った とおりに 練習したら、テストでいい点が取れました。
I practiced just as the teacher said, and I got a good score on the test.
地図 のとおりに 行ったら、すぐにホテルが見つかりました。
I followed the map and found the hotel right away.
リン天気予報によると、明日は三十五度まで上がるそうですよ。According to the weather forecast, it's going to get up to 35 degrees tomorrow.
