ところ shows which stage an action is at, and the meaning depends on the verb form. Dictionary form + ところだ means "about to do"; ~ている + ところだ means "in the middle of doing"; ta-form + ところだ means "have just done". It often appears with これから, 今, or ちょうど.

퀴즈

1電車でんしゃが 遅おくれて、会社かいしゃに 十分じゅっぷん( )しました。

정답과 해설

정답: 1 遅刻ちこく

The train was late, so I was ten minutes late for work. Arriving after the set time is 遅刻する. The other words do not fit with being ten minutes late.

2A「もしもし、もう 家いえを 出でましたか。」
B「いいえ、今いまから 出でる( )です。」

정답과 해설

정답: 3 ところ

A: Have you left home yet? B: No, I'm just about to leave. Dictionary form + ところだ means you are about to do something. ばかり needs the た form, and ながら and し cannot end a sentence with です.

3時間じかんが ないので、急いで ください。

정답과 해설

정답: 2 いそいで

急いで is read いそいで (hurry). 急 is read きゅう in words like 急行, but in the verb it is いそ(ぐ). The sentence means: We have no time, so please hurry.

4映画えいがは 七時しちじからです。今いま 六時ろくじ 五十五分ごじゅうごふんなので、( )始はじまりますよ。

정답과 해설

정답: 4 もうすぐ

The movie starts at seven and it is 6:55 now, so it will start soon: もうすぐ. さっき is for the past, ちょうど is for the exact moment, and まだ does not fit here.

5この パソコンは 先週せんしゅう 買かった( )なのに、もう 壊こわれて しまいました。

정답과 해설

정답: 1 ばかり

I bought this computer just last week, but it is already broken. たばかり can be used when the speaker feels little time has passed, even a week. たところ is only for right after an action, so it does not fit with last week.

6駅えきに 着ついた とき、( )電車でんしゃが 来きました。

정답과 해설

정답: 3 ちょうど

When I arrived at the station, the train came just then. ちょうど shows two things happened at the same moment. もうすぐ and これから are for the future, and さっき means a while ago.

7A「今いま どこ?」
B「駅えきで 電車でんしゃを __ __ _★_ __。あと 二十分にじゅっぷんぐらいで 着つくよ。」

정답과 해설

정답: 3 ところ

The order is 4→1→3→2: 駅で電車を待っているところだよ (I'm at the station waiting for the train right now). ているところだ means you are in the middle of doing something. ところ goes in the ★ position.

8改札の 前まえで 会あいましょう。

정답과 해설

정답: 4 かいさつ

改札 is read かいさつ (ticket gate). Neither sound is voiced: not が or ざ. The sentence means: Let's meet in front of the ticket gate.
