해설
かわりに has two uses. (1) Substitute: N のかわりに or V かわりに means someone or something else does it, or you do something else. (2) Exchange: A かわりに B means doing B in return for A, or that a bad point A is balanced by a good point B.

Do not forget の after a noun (not 部長かわりに). The kanji spelling is 代わりに.
