Used to say that something led to a good result, with a feeling of gratitude. The result that follows is positive. It can also end a sentence: 〜のおかげだ / 〜おかげです. Verbs are often in the ta-form, and when someone did something for you, 〜てくれたおかげで is common.

先生せんせいのおかげで、試験しけんに合格ごうかくできました。

Thanks to my teacher, I was able to pass the exam.
友ともだちが手伝てつだってくれたおかげで、引ひっ越こしが早はやく終おわった。

〜せいで

Because of ~ (bad result, blame)

Formación

N + の + せいで
V普通形 + せいで
いA + せいで
なA + な + せいで

Used to say that something caused a bad result. It puts the responsibility on that cause and can sound like a complaint or blame. At the end of a sentence it becomes 〜のせいだ. 〜せいか means "perhaps because of ~" when you are not sure of the cause.

Ejemplos

電車でんしゃが遅おくれたせいで、会議かいぎに間まに合あわなかった。

Because the train was late, I didn't make it to the meeting in time.
雪ゆきのせいで、乗のる予定よていだった飛行機ひこうきが飛とばなかった。

Because of the snow, the plane I was supposed to take didn't fly.

リン合格ごうかくはしたよ。でも、最初さいしょの問題もんだいができていたら、満点まんてんだったのに。I passed. But if I'd done the first question, I would have gotten a perfect score.

マリアちょっと待まって。成績せいせき、わたしより高たかいじゃない! それで十分じゅうぶんすごいよ。Wait a minute. Your score is higher than mine! That's amazing enough.
