  • いA + 一方で
  • なA + な / である + 一方で
  • N + である + 一方で
  • 文。+ 一方で、文。

一方で contrasts two sides of one thing, or two different things: A 一方で B means A is true, while on the other hand B is true. It can also start a new sentence: 一方で, ... (On the other hand, ...). It is a slightly formal expression common in news and explanations.

例句

  • この町まちは観光客かんこうきゃくが増ふえている一方いっぽうで、住すむ人ひとは減へっている。

    While the number of tourists in this town is rising, the number of residents is falling.

  • スマホは便利べんりな一方いっぽうで、使つかいすぎると目めが疲つかれる。

たとえ〜ても

  • たとえ + Vて形 + も
  • たとえ + いA(〜く) + ても
  • たとえ + なA + でも
  • たとえ + N + でも

たとえ〜ても means even if ~, the result or the speaker's feeling stays the same. ても alone has the same meaning, but adding たとえ makes it stronger: no matter what. Na-adjectives and nouns take でも. The main clause often shows determination or obligation.

例句

  • たとえ雨あめが降ふっても、試合しあいは行おこなわれます。

    Even if it rains, the game will be held.

  • たとえ高たかくても、本当ほんとうにほしいものなら買かいます。

    Even if it's expensive, I'll buy it if I really want it.

便利べんりな物ものが増ふえる一方いっぽうで、ごみの問題もんだいも大おおきくなっています。While convenient things are increasing, the trash problem is also growing.

町まちでは毎年まいとしたくさんの燃もえるごみを燃もやしていて、そのために多おおくのお金かねと資源しげんが使つかわれています。Every year our town burns a lot of burnable trash, and a lot of money and resources are used for it.

燃もえるごみの中なかで多おおいのが、生なまごみです。そして、生なまごみの重おもさのほとんどは水みずです。Food waste makes up a large part of burnable trash. And most of the weight of food waste is water.

水みずが多おおいごみは燃もえにくく、燃もやすのにたくさんのエネルギーが必要ひつようになります。Wet trash is hard to burn, so it takes a lot of energy to burn it.

そこで、生なまごみは水みずをよく切きってから出だしてください。So please drain the water well from your food waste before you put it out.

たとえ一回いっかいにスプーン一杯いっぱいの水みずでも、町まちの全部ぜんぶの家いえが毎日まいにち続つづければ、大おおきな量りょうになります。Even if it's only a spoonful of water each time, it adds up to a large amount if every home in town does it every day.

去年きょねん、試ためしにこの方法ほうほうを始はじめた東町ひがしまちでは、燃もえるごみが約やく一割いちわり減へりました。In Higashi-machi, which tried this method last year, burnable trash went down by about ten percent.

地球ちきゅうの環境かんきょうの問題もんだいは、すぐに解決かいけつできることではありません。The earth's environmental problems are not something that can be solved right away.

でも、たとえ小ちいさなことでも、一人一人ひとりひとりが続つづければ、資源しげんを守まもることにつながります。But even small things, if each of us keeps doing them, lead to protecting our resources.
