This stresses that something is "only this and nothing more," that it is small or unimportant. It is often used to say an amount or number is small, as in 一部にすぎない. It can also be used to speak modestly about yourself. It is common in writing and formal speech.

Lin, did you see this article? It says the café by the station will sell coffee for ten yen a cup starting next month.
Ten yen? That's way too cheap. Who wrote the article?
It's a personal blog, but thousands of people have already shared it. It's spread this much, so it's bound to be true.
Just because a lot of people are sharing it doesn't mean it's a fact. It might be nothing more than a baseless rumor.
You don't have to be so suspicious.
I'm not being suspicious, I just want to check. Let's look at the café's website.
...Oh, here it is. "From next month, ten yen off per cup of coffee."
See? It's not becoming ten yen; it's just getting ten yen cheaper.
So I missed the word "off." The person who wrote the blog must have made the same mistake.
Maybe. Before sharing an article, it's better to check the original information once.
Got it. But if it's even ten yen cheaper, of course I'm going!
