解說
There are two uses. (1) Basis for a judgment: from the fact that ~, one can tell or infer ~. The second half often has 分かる, 考えられる or ようだ. (2) Origin of a name: because of ~, it is called or was named ~. Both are written-style and common in explanations and news.
例句
この町は桜の木が多いことから、「花の町」と呼ばれている。
This town is called the Town of Flowers because it has many cherry trees.
道がぬれていることから、夜の間に雨が降ったことが分かる。
From the fact that the road is wet, we can tell it rained during the night.
この地域は交通が便利なことから、若い家族に人気がある。
This area is popular with young families because transportation is convenient.
彼女はプロの料理人であることから、友人によく料理の作り方を聞かれる。
Because she is a professional cook, her friends often ask her how to make dishes.
注意
The second half cannot be a request, command or intention; use から or ので in those cases.
