A とき B says when B happens: "when A, B." The word before とき is in the plain form; na-adjectives take な and nouns take の. With verbs, the form before とき shows the order of the two actions. Dictionary form + とき means A is not finished yet when B happens; た-form + とき means A is already finished. So 日本へ 来る とき、買いました means "I bought it before arriving in Japan," and 日本へ 来た とき、買いました means "I bought it after arriving."
子どもの とき、よく 川で 泳ぎました。
When I was a child, I often swam in the river.
暇な とき、うちで 音楽を 聞きます。
When I have free time, I listen to music at home.
B is more ~ than A (comparing two things)
Use this to compare two things. A より B のほうが ~ means "B is more ~ than A": より marks the thing you compare against (like than), and のほうが marks the one that is more so. Japanese adjectives have no comparative form, so the adjective stays as it is. You can also say B は A より ~です. To ask, say A と B と、どちらが ~ですか; answer B のほうが ~です, or どちらも ~です if they are the same.

今の 町は 駅も 店も 近いですから、とても 便利です。In my town now, the station and the shops are close, so it is very convenient.
子どもの ときは、父の 車で 学校へ 行きました。When I was a child, I went to school in my father's car.
今は 電車で 会社へ 行きます。朝は 道に 車が 多いですから、車より 電車の ほうが 速いです。Now I go to work by train. In the morning there are a lot of cars on the road, so the train is faster than a car.

R2アリさんの 今の 部屋は どうですか。
答案: 1 子どもの ときの 家の お風呂より 小さいです。
The last line says the room now is small, and the bathroom in the childhood house was bigger. So the room now is smaller than that old bathroom.
1日曜日の 公園は 人が ( )です。とても にぎやかです。
答案: 3 多い
"There are a lot of people in the park on Sunday. It's very lively." Lively means there are many people. 少ない is the opposite, and 広い and 速い do not describe the number of people.
2子ども( ) とき、よく 公園で 遊びました。
答案: 1 の
"When I was a child, I often played in the park." A noun connects to とき with の: 子どものとき.
3駅も 店も 近いですから、この 町は とても ( )です。
答案: 4 便利
"The station and the shops are close, so this town is very convenient." A town is not 速い (fast), and 子ども is a noun, so it cannot follow とても.
4A「バスと 電車と どちらが 速いですか。」
B「バス( )電車の ほうが 速いです。」
答案: 2 より
A: "Which is faster, the bus or the train?" B: "The train is faster than the bus." To compare, say AよりBのほうが〜.
5車で 学校へ 行きます。
答案: 1 くるま
On its own, 車 is read くるま (car). しゃ is the reading in words like 電車. The sentence means "I go to school by car."
6この 公園は とても ( )ですから、子どもが たくさん 遊んでいます。
答案: 3 広い
"This park is very big, so a lot of children are playing." 広い means spacious. A park is not 速い, 少ない does not fit, and 人 is a noun.
7家が 静か( ) とき、本を 読みます。
答案: 2 な
"When my house is quiet, I read a book." 静か is a na-adjective, so it connects to とき with な: 静かなとき. の is used after nouns, and 静かだとき or 静かにとき are not correct.
8この 町は ひとが 多いです。
答案: 4 人
ひと (person) is written 人. 大, 入 and 八 look similar but are different kanji. The sentence means "There are a lot of people in this town."
