〜とき

when ~ / at the time that ~

ဖွဲ့စည်းပုံ
  • V辞書形/Vない形/Vた形 + とき
  • いA + とき
  • なA + な + とき
  • N + の + とき

A とき B says when B happens: "when A, B." The word before とき is in the plain form; na-adjectives take な and nouns take の. With verbs, the form before とき shows the order of the two actions. Dictionary form + とき means A is not finished yet when B happens; た-form + とき means A is already finished. So 日本へ 来る とき、買いました means "I bought it before arriving in Japan," and 日本へ 来た とき、買いました means "I bought it after arriving."

နမူနာများ

  • 子こどもの とき、よく 川かわで 泳およぎました。

When I was a child, I often swam in the river.

  • 暇ひまな とき、うちで 音楽おんがくを 聞ききます。

When I have free time, I listen to music at home.

〜より〜のほうが

B is more ~ than A (comparing two things)

ဖွဲ့စည်းပုံ
  • N1 + より + N2 + のほうが + いA/なA + です
  • N2 + は + N1 + より + いA/なA + です
  • N1 + と + N2 + と、どちらが + いA/なA + ですか

Use this to compare two things. A より B のほうが ~ means "B is more ~ than A": より marks the thing you compare against (like than), and のほうが marks the one that is more so. Japanese adjectives have no comparative form, so the adjective stays as it is. You can also say B は A より ~です. To ask, say A と B と、どちらが ~ですか; answer B のほうが ~です, or どちらも ~です if they are the same.

နမူနာများ

  • バスより 電車でんしゃの ほうが 速はやいです。

The train is faster than the bus.

  • 私わたしは 肉にくより 魚さかなの ほうが 好すきです。

I like fish better than meat.

子こどもの ときの 町まちと 今いまの 町まち My childhood town and my town now

私わたしは アリです。子こどもの とき、海うみの 近ちかくの 小ちいさい 町まちに 住すんでいました。I am Ali. When I was a child, I lived in a small town near the sea.

町まちは 人ひとが 少すくなかったですが、家いえは とても 広ひろかったです。There weren't many people in the town, but our house was very big.

今いまは 大おおきい 町まちに 住すんでいます。子こどもの ときの 町まちより 今いまの 町まちの ほうが 人ひとが 多おおいです。Now I live in a big town. There are more people in my town now than in my childhood town.

今いまの 町まちは 駅えきも 店みせも 近ちかいですから、とても 便利べんりです。In my town now, the station and the shops are close, so it is very convenient.

子こどもの ときは、父ちちの 車くるまで 学校がっこうへ 行いきました。When I was a child, I went to school in my father's car.

今いまは 電車でんしゃで 会社かいしゃへ 行いきます。朝あさは 道みちに 車くるまが 多おおいですから、車くるまより 電車でんしゃの ほうが 速はやいです。Now I go to work by train. In the morning there are a lot of cars on the road, so the train is faster than a car.

今いまの 私わたしの 部屋へやは 小ちいさいです。子こどもの ときの 家いえの お風呂ふろの ほうが 広ひろかったです!My room now is small. The bathroom in my childhood house was bigger!

R1アリさんが 子こどもの ときに 住すんでいた 町まちは どんな 町まちでしたか。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 3 人ひとが 少すくない 小ちいさい 町まちでした。

The text says 海の近くの小さい町 (a small town near the sea) and 町は人が少なかったです (there weren't many people). The town with many people and convenient places is the town now.

R2アリさんの 今いまの 部屋へやは どうですか。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 1 子こどもの ときの 家いえの お風呂ふろより 小ちいさいです。

The last line says the room now is small, and the bathroom in the childhood house was bigger. So the room now is smaller than that old bathroom.

Quiz

1日曜日にちようびの 公園こうえんは 人ひとが ( )です。とても にぎやかです。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 3 多おおい

"There are a lot of people in the park on Sunday. It's very lively." Lively means there are many people. 少ない is the opposite, and 広い and 速い do not describe the number of people.

2子こども( ) とき、よく 公園こうえんで 遊あそびました。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 1 の

"When I was a child, I often played in the park." A noun connects to とき with の: 子どものとき.

3駅えきも 店みせも 近ちかいですから、この 町まちは とても ( )です。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 4 便利べんり

"The station and the shops are close, so this town is very convenient." A town is not 速い (fast), and 子ども is a noun, so it cannot follow とても.

4A「バスと 電車でんしゃと どちらが 速はやいですか。」
B「バス( )電車でんしゃの ほうが 速はやいです。」

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 2 より

A: "Which is faster, the bus or the train?" B: "The train is faster than the bus." To compare, say AよりBのほうが〜.

5車で 学校がっこうへ 行いきます。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 1 くるま

On its own, 車 is read くるま (car). しゃ is the reading in words like 電車. The sentence means "I go to school by car."

6この 公園こうえんは とても ( )ですから、子こどもが たくさん 遊あそんでいます。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 3 広ひろい

"This park is very big, so a lot of children are playing." 広い means spacious. A park is not 速い, 少ない does not fit, and 人 is a noun.

7家いえが 静しずか( ) とき、本ほんを 読よみます。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 2 な

"When my house is quiet, I read a book." 静か is a na-adjective, so it connects to とき with な: 静かなとき. の is used after nouns, and 静かだとき or 静かにとき are not correct.

8この 町まちは ひとが 多おおいです。

အဖြေနှင့် ရှင်းလင်းချက်

အဖြေ: 4 人

ひと (person) is written 人. 大, 入 and 八 look similar but are different kanji. The sentence means "There are a lot of people in this town."
