To describe how something was in the past, change the adjective. For i-adjectives, drop い and add かったです (暑い → 暑かったです). The negative is くなかったです or くありませんでした. Na-adjectives work like nouns: add でした or じゃありませんでした. The adjective いい is irregular: よかったです, よくなかったです.
例句
昨日は とても 暑かったです。
It was very hot yesterday.
旅行は 楽しかったです。でも、ホテルは あまり よくなかったです。
The trip was fun. But the hotel wasn't very good.
先週の パーティーは にぎやかでした。
Last week's party was lively.
昨日の テストは 簡単じゃありませんでした。
Yesterday's test was not easy.
注意
Do not add でした to i-adjectives (not 暑いでした). Do not add かった to na-adjectives (not 静かかったです).
