山と 川 Mountains and rivers
Learn the four seasons (はる, なつ, あき, ふゆ) and the words 山 (mountain) and 川 (river). You will be able to use na-adjectives, as in きれいです (it's pretty), しずかな よる (a quiet night), and きれいじゃありません (it's not clean).

Adjectives that take な before a noun

- なA + です（静かです）
- なA + な + N（静かな 町）
- なA + じゃありません／ではありません（静かじゃありません）
な-adjectives are words like 静か (quiet), 元気 (healthy, lively), 有名 (famous), 便利 (convenient) and きれい (pretty, clean). At the end of a sentence they take です, just like nouns: 静かです. Before a noun they need な: 静かな 町 (a quiet town). The negative is also the same as for nouns: 静かじゃありません or 静かではありません. In conversation, 静かじゃないです is common too.

はるの 山は きれいです。はなも きれいです。The mountains are pretty in spring. The flowers are pretty, too.
なつは とても あついです。川の 水は きれいです。Summer is very hot. The river water is clean.
あきの 川は しずかです。山は あかいです。In autumn, the rivers are quiet. The mountains are red.
ふゆの 山は しろいです。とても さむいです。In winter, the mountains are white. It's very cold.
日本は きれいな くにです。Japan is a beautiful country.
でも、わたしの へやは きれいじゃありません!But my room is not clean!
