A はもちろん B (も) means A goes without saying, and B as well. A is something obvious, and B is added to it. The second part often has も or まで. It is similar to だけでなく but stresses that A is obvious, and it is common in polite speech and writing.
この公園は週末はもちろん、平日も人が多い。
This park is crowded on weekdays, not to mention weekends.
田中さんは英語はもちろん、フランス語も話せます。
Tanaka-san speaks English, of course, and French too.
instead of ~; in exchange for ~
かわりに has two uses. (1) Substitute: N のかわりに or V かわりに means someone or something else does it, or you do something else. (2) Exchange: A かわりに B means doing B in return for A, or that a bad point A is balanced by a good point B.
今日は部長の代わりに、私が会議に出ます。
Today I'll attend the meeting instead of the department manager.
週末は出かける代わりに、家でゆっくり本を読みました。
Instead of going out on the weekend, I relaxed at home and read a book.
先月から、週に三日、在宅勤務をしている。Since last month, I have been working from home three days a week.
家で働けば、通勤の時間はもちろん、会社に着ていく服を選ぶ時間もいらない。When I work at home, I don't need time for commuting, of course, or even time to choose clothes to wear to the office.
給料は同じなのに、自由な時間が毎朝一時間も増えた。仕事の効率も上がった気がする。My salary is the same, yet I have a whole extra hour of free time every morning. I feel my work has become more efficient, too.
でも、いいことばかりではない。時間が自由になるかわりに、自分で責任を持って仕事を進めなければならない。But it's not all good. In exchange for having free time, I have to move my work forward on my own responsibility.
それに、職場の仲間と話す機会が減って、少しさびしい。Also, I have fewer chances to talk with my coworkers, and I feel a little lonely.
一番困ったのは、仕事の始まりと終わりがはっきりしないことだ。What bothered me most was that the start and end of my workday were unclear.
そこで最近は、通勤のかわりに、毎朝近くの公園を一周してから仕事を始めることにした。So lately, instead of commuting, I walk once around a nearby park every morning before I start work.
歩いて帰ってくると、ちゃんと「会社の自分」になれるのだ。When I walk back home, I can properly become my "office self."
