  • N + といい、N + といい

Picks two aspects of something and evaluates the whole: "whether you look at X or Y." The second half is the speaker's evaluation, such as wonderful or terrible. It works for good and bad evaluations, but not for plain facts, actions, or requests.

နမူနာများ

  • 色いろといい形かたちといい、このかばんは私わたしの好このみにぴったりだ。

    Both in color and shape, this bag is exactly to my taste.

  • 味あじといい値段ねだんといい、この店みせのランチは文句もんくのつけようがない。

    In both taste and price, this restaurant's lunch is beyond criticism.

〜いかんで・〜いかんによって

Depending on ~; determined by ~

  • N + (の) + いかんで
  • N + (の) + いかんによって(は)
  • N + (の) + いかんでは
  • N + (の) + いかんだ

いかん means "how something is," so N いかんで means "depending on how N turns out." いかんによっては means "in some cases," often followed by a special result such as cancellation. It can also end a sentence as 〜は〜いかんだ. It is formal and goes with nouns like 結果, 成績, 努力, 対応, 天候.

  • 試験しけんの結果けっかいかんで、来年らいねんどのクラスに入はいるかが決きまる。

    Which class you join next year will be decided by your exam results.

  • 天候てんこういかんによっては、明日あしたの山登やまのぼりは中止ちゅうしになります。

アリ今度こんどは時間じかんをかけて吟味ぎんみしよう。前まえのソファは猫ねこに爪つめでひっかかれて、二年にねんでぼろぼろになったからね。This time let's take our time and choose carefully. Our last sofa got scratched up by the cat and was in tatters after two years.

マリアこれはどう? 色いろといい質感しつかんといい、申もうし分ぶんないと思おもう。How about this one? In both color and texture, I think it's perfect.

アリ本当ほんとうだ。座すわり心地ごこちもいい。でも、十二万円じゅうにまんえんか……。You're right. It's comfortable to sit on, too. But it's 120,000 yen...

店員そちらは今いまいちばん売うれ行ゆきのいい商品しょうひんです。布ぬのが丈夫じょうぶで耐久性たいきゅうせいに優すぐれておりまして、猫ねこの爪つめにも強つよいんですよ。That is our best-selling item right now. The fabric is strong and very durable, and it even stands up to cats' claws.

マリア隣となりの六万円ろくまんえんのは手頃てごろだけど、並ならべてみると、やっぱり少すこし見劣みおとりするね。The 60,000-yen one next to it is affordable, but side by side, it does look a bit inferior.

アリうん。でも、家いえまで運はこんでもらうと、もっと高たかくなるかもしれない。買かうかどうかは配送料はいそうりょういかんで決きめよう。Yeah. But having it delivered to our home might make it even more expensive. Let's decide whether to buy it depending on the delivery fee.

Nいかんで is used when something is decided or changes depending on N. Sentence 1 means "We will decide whether to hold the game depending on tomorrow's weather." It cannot follow a verb directly as in 3.

耐久性 is read たいきゅうせい (durability). "This bag is very durable." Note the long vowel in きゅう.

ぎんみ is written 吟味 (careful examination). "I choose the ingredients carefully and cook." The other choices are not real words.
