A が早いか B means that B happened almost at the same moment as A, without waiting for A to finish. It describes quick actions or reactions. B is normally a fact that actually happened in the past, so it cannot be a wish, intention, command or request. It is a fairly formal, literary expression used in novels and written reports.

土曜日どようびの朝あさ、駅前えきまえの洋菓子店ようがしてんに長ながい列れつができた。この日ひから、一日いちにち二百個にひゃっこだけの限定げんていプリンが売うり出だされるのだ。On Saturday morning, a long line formed at the pastry shop in front of the station. Starting that day, a limited pudding, only 200 a day, was going on sale.

開店前かいてんまえから店みせの前まえで待まち構かまえていた客きゃくは、およそ三百人さんびゃくにんに上のぼった。The customers who had been waiting in front of the shop since before it opened numbered about 300.

午前十時ごぜんじゅうじ、店員てんいんが販売開始はんばいかいしを告つげるや否いなや、客きゃくは一斉いっせいに売うり場ばへ殺到さっとうした。At 10 a.m., the moment a clerk announced the start of sales, the customers rushed to the counter all at once.

店員てんいんがプリンを棚たなに並ならべるが早はやいか、次々つぎつぎと手てが伸のび、商品しょうひんは瞬時しゅんじに消きえていった。No sooner had the clerks put the puddings on the shelves than hands reached out one after another, and the items vanished in an instant.

二百個にひゃっこが売うり切きれるまで、わずか三分さんぷんだった。It took only three minutes for all 200 to sell out.

一方いっぽう、販売開始はんばいかいしの速報そくほうがSNSに流ながれると、近ちかくに住すむ人ひとや学生がくせいも次々つぎつぎに駆かけつけた。Meanwhile, when a news flash about the start of sales appeared on social media, people living nearby and students also came rushing over one after another.

客きゃくはその後ごも押おし寄よせ続つづけ、小ちいさな店みせは昼過ひるすぎまで慌あわただしかった。Customers kept pouring in after that, and the small shop stayed hectic until past noon.

しかし、棚たなにはもう限定げんていプリンは一ひとつも残のこっていなかった。However, not a single limited pudding was left on the shelves.

ところが、閉店後へいてんごに売うり上あげを調しらべた店長てんちょうは驚おどろいた。隣となりに並ならんでいた普通ふつうのプリンが、いつもの五倍ごばいも売うれていたのだ。But when the manager checked the sales after closing, there was a surprise. The regular pudding displayed next to it had sold five times as many as usual.
