A is B (polite statement about a topic)
This is the most basic Japanese sentence: it says politely that A is B. は marks the topic (what the sentence is about); as a particle it is pronounced wa, not ha. です comes at the end and never changes with the subject, so it covers am, is and are. When the topic is clear from the situation, it is usually left out: リンです alone means "I'm Lin."
はじめまして。私は リンです。
Nice to meet you. I am Lin.
佐藤さんは 会社員です。
Sato-san is an office worker.
Question marker placed at the end of a sentence
Add か to the end of a polite sentence to turn it into a question. The word order does not change. Say the end with rising intonation; in writing, a question normally ends with 。 rather than a question mark. Yes/no questions are answered with はい or いいえ. Questions with words such as 何 (what), だれ (who), いつ (when) or いくら (how much) also end in か, and the question word stays where the answer would be.
A: リンさんは 学生ですか。
B: はい、学生です。
A: Are you a student, Lin-san? B: Yes, I am.

田中はい、日本です。リンさん、お仕事は?Yes, it's Japan. Lin-san, what is your job?
リン会社員です。田中さんは 学生ですか。I'm an office worker. Are you a student, Tanaka-san?
田中いいえ、私は 先生です。No, I am the teacher.

R1リンさんは 学生ですか。
Respuesta: 3 いいえ、会社員です。
Tanaka-san asks お仕事は? (What is your job?), and Lin-san answers 会社員です (I'm an office worker). Lin-san is not a student, so the answer is いいえ、会社員です.
R2先生は ( )さんです。
Respuesta: 1 田中
In the last line, Tanaka-san says いいえ、私は先生です (No, I am the teacher). So the teacher is Tanaka-san. Lin-san is an office worker.
1私は 学生です。( )は マリアです。
Respuesta: 2 名前
The sentence means "I am a student. My name is Maria." Maria is a person's name, so 名前 (name) fits. 国 (country), 仕事 (job) and 日本 (Japan) do not match マリア.
2A:お国は どちらですか。 B:( )です。
Respuesta: 4 日本
A asks "Which country are you from?" The answer must be a country, so 日本 (Japan) is correct. 先生 (teacher), 学生 (student) and 仕事 (job) are not countries.
3A:お仕事は? B:( )です。
Respuesta: 1 会社員
A asks "What is your job?" 会社員 (office worker) is a job, so it is correct. 名前 (name), 国 (country) and 私 (I) do not answer the question.
4はじめまして。私( ) リンです。
Respuesta: 3 は
The sentence means "Nice to meet you. I am Lin." は marks the topic: 私は means "as for me". か comes at the end of a question, です comes at the end of a sentence, and さん is added to other people's names.
5A:田中さんは 先生です( )。 B:はい、先生です。
Respuesta: 2 か
A asks "Is Tanaka-san a teacher?" and B answers "Yes." Adding か to the end of a sentence makes it a question. は comes after the topic, not at the end of a sentence.
6リンさん __ _★_ __ __。
Respuesta: 4 会社員
The correct order is 3→4→2→1: リンさんは 会社員ですか (Is Lin-san an office worker?). は comes right after the topic リンさん, and か comes at the very end. The star is 会社員.
7マリアさんは 学生です。
Respuesta: 1 がくせい
学生 is read がくせい (student). The sentence means "Maria-san is a student." Be careful: it starts with がく, not かく, and it ends with the long sound せい.
8田中さんは 先生ですか。
Respuesta: 3 せんせい
先生 is read せんせい (teacher). The sentence means "Is Tanaka-san a teacher?" It ends with the long sound せい, not せ.
