Explicación
This means you try or take care to do (or not do) something. You ni shite iru describes an ongoing habit or effort. You ni shite kudasai is a soft request: 'please make sure to ~'. You ni naru describes a change that happens, while you ni suru describes your own effort.

I try not to look at my phone before going to bed.

Notas
Before you ni, use the dictionary form or the -nai form. Koto ni suru is a one-time decision; you ni suru is an ongoing effort.
