Explicación
A や否や B means that B happened at the very moment A happened. B is often a reaction triggered by A or something unexpected. B must be a past fact, not an intention, command or request. 否や can be dropped, leaving just や. It is a formal written expression often seen in news articles and novels.

Notas
Use the dictionary form; 開けたや否や is wrong. It is almost the same as が早いか, but や否や is often followed by an unexpected event.
