〜なさい is a command used by someone in a higher position to someone lower, such as a parent to a child or a teacher to a student. It is softer than the plain imperative (行け, 食べろ), but you cannot use it toward superiors. It also appears in test instructions like 答えなさい (Answer) and 選びなさい (Choose).
例句
（母が 子どもに）もう 十時よ。早く 寝なさい。
(Mother to child) It's already ten o'clock. Go to bed now.
次の 文を 読んで、質問に 答えなさい。
Read the following sentences and answer the questions.
ご飯の 前に 手を 洗いなさい。

注意
Using it to a teacher, boss or customer is very rude; use 〜てください instead. する becomes しなさい and 来る becomes 来なさい (きなさい).
