Use this to ask someone to do something. It is common for instructions in shops, schools and offices: ここに名前を書いてください. It is also used to warmly offer something: どうぞ食べてください (please eat). To ask for a thing, use N をください, as in 水をください.
名前と 電話番号を 書いてください。
Please write your name and phone number.
すみません、もう 少し ゆっくり 話してください。
Excuse me, please speak a little more slowly.
Be doing ~ / ongoing state or habit
There are three main uses. (1) An action happening now: 音楽を聞いています. (2) A state that continues after something happened: 東京に住んでいます, 結婚しています, 車を持っています. (3) A habit or job: 銀行で働いています. Verbs like 住む, 持つ and 知る are usually used in the 〜ています form.
今、弟は 部屋で 音楽を 聞いています。
My younger brother is listening to music in his room now.
佐藤さんは 東京に 住んでいます。
Sato-san lives in Tokyo.
マリアすみません、駅は どこですか。友だちが 今、駅で 待っています。Excuse me, where is the station? My friend is waiting at the station right now.
佐藤この 道を まっすぐ 行ってください。銀行の 前で 右に 曲がってください。Please go straight along this street. Please turn right in front of the bank.
マリアありがとうございます。この 町に 住んでいますか。Thank you. Do you live in this town?
佐藤はい、二十年 住んでいます。Yes, I've lived here for twenty years.
マリアじゃ、銀行の 前で 右に 曲がります。ありがとうございました!Then I'll turn right in front of the bank. Thank you very much!
佐藤あっ、ちょっと 待ってください! 右じゃありません。左です!Oh, wait a moment, please! Not right. It's left!
